Terms of sale

Effective date: 19 December 2025

These Terms of Sale apply to all purchases made through stringart.nz (the “Website”). By placing an order, you agree to these Terms of Sale.

1) About us

StringArt NZ is a small, independent studio based in New Zealand. We design and make our pieces in small batches and, in many cases, create items to order.

Because we’re a small studio, our capacity is limited at times (especially during peak periods). That means production and dispatch timeframes can vary, and we may occasionally need to pause, limit, or stagger orders to maintain quality.

2) Product care

Our string art pieces are decorative items intended for indoor display.

To help keep your piece looking its best:

  • Avoid direct sunlight: Prolonged direct sun can cause fading and may affect timber and finishes.

  • Avoid moisture and high humidity: Keep away from bathrooms, kitchens (steam/grease), outdoor areas, and damp spaces. Moisture can affect timber, backing materials, and string tension.

  • Handle with care: String art is fragile. Avoid pressure on the strings/nails, and lift by the frame/backing rather than the string pattern.

  • Hanging: Use appropriate wall fixings for the weight of the piece. Ensure the piece is secure and not able to swing or fall.

  • Cleaning: Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth or duster. Do not use water, sprays, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.

  • Keep out of reach: We recommend keeping pieces away from small children and pets due to sharp points and delicate components.

Damage caused by exposure to sunlight, moisture/humidity, improper hanging, accidents, or unsuitable cleaning methods may not be covered as a fault.

3) Product warranty

Our products come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

In addition, we offer a voluntary studio warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.

What we cover

  • Manufacturing faults or defects present at the time of delivery, or that appear within a reasonable period in normal indoor use.

What is not covered

  • Minor variations consistent with handmade/made-to-order products.

  • Accidental damage, dropping, impact, or crushing.

  • Damage from direct sunlight, moisture, high humidity, heat sources, or environmental conditions.

  • Damage from improper installation/hanging, inadequate fixings, or Authority to Leave issues after confirmed delivery.

  • Changes due to normal wear and tear.

  • Cleaning damage (liquids, sprays, solvents, abrasives).

  • Unauthorised repairs, modifications, or misuse.

How to make a warranty claim Email [email protected] with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photos. We may ask you to return the item for assessment. If a fault is confirmed, we will provide an appropriate remedy (repair, replacement, or refund) in line with New Zealand consumer law.

4) Prices and currency

  • All prices are shown in NZD unless stated otherwise.

  • Prices displayed on the Website are GST-inclusive where GST is chargeable.

  • Any delivery charges and the final order total will be shown at checkout before you pay.

  • We may update prices at any time, but the price you pay is the price shown at checkout when you place your order.

5) Orders and acceptance

  • Placing an order is an offer to purchase.

  • We accept your order when we send an order confirmation email and/or when we dispatch your goods.

  • We may decline, cancel, or limit orders (for example, due to stock or production constraints, suspected fraud, or pricing errors). If we cancel after you’ve paid, we will refund you.

6) Custom and personalised orders

If you purchase a custom or personalised item:

  • You are responsible for providing accurate personalisation details (e.g. images).

  • If we provide a proof/preview, you must check it carefully and approve it promptly.

  • Once production has started, changes may not be possible (or may incur additional costs and time).

7) Payment

We accept payment via credit cards. Payment must be received in full before we begin production (for made-to-order items) and before dispatch.

8) Production times and dispatch

  • Any stated production and dispatch timeframes are estimates.

  • Timeframes may change due to demand, supplier delays, or events outside our control.

  • If there is a meaningful delay, we will contact you using the details you provided.

9) Shipping, delivery, and pickup

  • We ship within New Zealand (and may offer international shipping by arrangement).

  • Shipping options, charges, and any tracking/signature requirements are shown at checkout.

  • Delivery timeframes are estimates only. Once an order is dispatched, courier delivery is outside our control.

  • Rural delivery may take longer and, where applicable, may cost more (this will be shown at checkout if available).

  • You are responsible for providing a correct delivery address and any delivery instructions. If a parcel is returned to us due to an incorrect or undeliverable address, we may charge the cost of re-shipping.

  • If you request Authority to Leave, you accept responsibility for the parcel once the courier confirms delivery to the nominated location.

  • If your parcel arrives damaged, appears tampered with, or is missing items, please contact us as soon as possible (ideally within 3 days) and include photos so we can investigate and, where appropriate, raise a claim with the courier.

  • If you choose pickup, pickup details will be provided after ordering.

10) Risk and ownership

To the extent permitted by law:

  • Risk passes to you when the goods are delivered to the delivery address you provide (or when collected for pickup).

  • Ownership passes once we receive full payment.

11) Change-of-mind returns

Change-of-mind returns are not accepted except where required by New Zealand consumer law.

12) Faulty, damaged, or incorrect items

If your item arrives faulty, damaged, or not as ordered, contact us at [email protected] as soon as reasonably possible and include your order number and photos (if relevant).

For issues that may have happened in transit (such as visible damage to packaging, breakage, or missing parts), contacting us within 3 days helps us investigate quickly with the courier. This timeframe is a request to assist the process and does not limit any rights you may have under New Zealand consumer law.

Where the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, refund, or other remedy depending on the nature of the issue.

13) New Zealand consumer law

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude, restrict, or mislead you about any rights and remedies you may have under New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986.

14) Business customers

If you are purchasing goods for business purposes (in trade), the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 may be contracted out of only if we agree in writing and the law allows it.

15) Promotions and discount codes

  • Discount codes must be applied at checkout and cannot be applied retrospectively.

  • Promotions may be changed or withdrawn at any time, subject to law.

16) Chargebacks and disputes

If there is a problem with your order, please contact us first and we’ll work with you to resolve it.

17) Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss (such as loss of profit). Our total liability for any claim related to a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant product, except where New Zealand law requires otherwise.

18) Privacy

We collect and use personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

19) Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time by publishing an updated version on the Website. The version in force at the time you place your order applies to that order.

20) Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and New Zealand courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
